Just a fairy tale is a puppet film of the DEFA studios for Animated Films of Carl Schroeder from the year 1963 .

After the narrator introduced us to the main characters of the film, we have already arrived at the farm of the LPG " Brothers Grimm ". At this moment, two young women from the non-working population are applying to LPG chairwoman Ms. Holle for a job. These are Marie Gold and Marie Pech, who have very different attitudes towards work ethic. While Marie Gold reacts immediately to the call of the oven , frees it of the fresh bread and then cleans it, Marie Pech is not disturbed by the oven's calls for help and only appears when the bread has burned beyond recognition. Nor does she listen to the calls of the apple tree , which can no longer carry the load of the many ripe apples, while Marie Gold gently and skillfully frees the apple tree from its fruits. Marie Pech, on the other hand, gets a truck with which she drives backwards against the tree trunk, so that the apples fall onto the loading area and are only suitable for the jam factory.
At the end of the day, earnings are paid out at the exit gate and Marie Pech receives the same amount as Marie Gold. When the narrator mentions that he knows the story very differently, he gets the answer that the reward of the hardworking and punishment of the lazy can only be found in fairy tales.

Only one fairy tale was filmed on ORWO color under the working titles Frau Holle and Once Upon a Time and had its premiere on July 19, 1963.
The dramaturgy was in the hands of Rudolf Thomas , the scenario came from Joachim Höfler and Manfred Schubert . Andreas Reinhardt was responsible for the production design .
