Christopher Lloyd "Chris" Smalling (born November 22, 1989 in London ) is an English football player who is used in defense .

Career

society

Born in the London borough of Greenwich , Smalling played for the Isthmian League club Maidstone United while he was still in school. After twelve appearances with one goal, the Jamaican central defender moved to the Premier League club Fulham in 2008 . There he played for the first time on May 24, 2009 on the last day of the Premier League against FC Everton (0-2).

For the 2010/11 season Smalling moved to Manchester United . On August 28, 2010, he played in the 3-0 home win against West Ham United when he was substituted on in the 74th minute, his first league game for Manchester. In his first season at Manchester United Smalling came on 16 league appearances and was English champions at the end of the season.

For the season 2019/20 Smalling was the Roma awarded. After a season with 30 appearances (3 goals) in Serie A , he left the club again.

National team

Smalling made his debut for England's U-20 team in April 2009 in a game against Italy. On August 11, 2009, four months after his U-20 debut, he made his debut as a substitute for the U-21 national team in a friendly against the Netherlands (0-0). On December 14, 2009 he was in the starting line-up for the first time in a qualifier for the U-21 European Championship 2011 against Portugal at Wembley Stadium (1-0). On October 8, 2010, he scored his first goal for the U-21s against Romania .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in England's squad. He was one of the regular players and was on the field every minute of the game in all four games until the tournament was eliminated in the round of 16.
