On January 12, 2016, he moved to the sixth division Stockport County on loan for a month . There he was used in five games and returned to the Hatters for a month in March and guarded the gate of their four more times.

On August 31, 2016, he moved to fourth division Grimsby Town in a loan deal until the end of the year , where he was scheduled as the second goalkeeper behind James McKeown . The loan was extended in January 2017 to the end of the 2016/17 season . Manchester United called him back at the beginning of February after third goalkeeper Joel Pereira was injured there. Henderson rose at Grimsby Town just recently to the goalkeeper and was used for this in seven games.

For the following season 2017/18 he was loaned to third division club Shrewsbury Town , where he was immediately appointed first goalkeeper and received the number 1 jersey. Accordingly, he was also used in 48 competitive games and was an important part of the good season of his loan club. He reached the final of the EFL Trophy 2017/18 with Shrewsbury Town , where they failed to fourth division Lincoln City . In addition, they moved into the final of the promotion playoffs against Rotherham United . In the 2-1 defeat after extra time, the young goalkeeper was already able to excel after nine minutes when he parried a David Ball penalty . At the end of the season, his outstanding performance was nominated for the PFA Team of the Year .

Breakthrough at Sheffield United

For the 2018/19 season, Henderson extended his contract with Manchester United until June 30, 2020 and switched to second division Sheffield United on loan . With the Blades , he rose to runner-up in the Premier League this season . He was used in all 46 league games and kept his clean slate in 21 games. During the summer break, the loan for the 2019/20 season was extended, for which Henderson also extended his contract with Manchester United until June 30, 2022. He was used in 36 Premier League games and achieved relegation with the club.
