Luke Paul Hoare Shaw (born July 12, 1995 in London ) is an English football player . He has played as a defender in the Premier League for Manchester United since summer 2014 .

Club career

Southampton FC

Shaw joined Southampton FC's youth academy at the age of eight and was pulled up to the U-18 at the age of 15. He got his first contact with the first team in September 2011 when he sat on the bench in the League Cup game against Preston North End , but was not used. The shirt number 34 was assigned to him. On January 28, 2012, Shaw made his debut for Southampton's first team at the age of 16 when he came on for Jason Puncheon in the 77th minute in the FA Cup game against Millwall FC . After promotion to the Premier League in May 2012, he was offered a professional contract with Jack Stephens , Calum Chambers and James Ward-Prowse . He completed his first professional season 2012/13 as an important regular player and 28 appearances in competitive games, including 25 appearances in the Premier League. In July of the same year, Shaw signed a new five-year contract with Southampton FC that came into effect on his 18th birthday.

Manchester United

At the end of June 2014, the change was made under Manchester United's new coach Louis van Gaal . Shaw moved to Manchester for the equivalent of around 37 million euros . In his first season Shaw came on 16 league appearances without his own goal. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Shaw improved and played the first five league games and the two Champions League play-off games over the full 90 minutes. On his debut in the main competition against PSV Eindhoven on Matchday 1 of the group stage on September 15, 2015, Shaw suffered a double fracture of his tibia and was out for ten months.

National team

After Shaw had already played for the U-16, U-17 and U-21 England, he made his debut on February 27, 2014 in the game against Denmark for England's senior team . On May 12, 2014 Roy Hodgson nominated him for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. In Brazil, Shaw played in the last group game against Costa Rica . However, this game had no meaning anymore, as the English were already eliminated after defeats against Italy and Uruguay and ended 0-0. At the age of 18 years and 347 days, he was the youngest player to appear in the 2014 World Cup and the only player who was not yet 19 years old.
