Jacob Harry Maguire (born March 5, 1993 in Sheffield ) is an English football player . The center- back and international is the captain of Manchester United .

Career

Maguire moved from Barnsley FC to Sheffield United's youth division in 2009 . From April 2011 he made his first appearances for the first team in the second-rate Football League Championship and played five times by the end of the season. After the club was relegated to Football League One , Maguire prevailed there as a regular player and came in each of the following three seasons to over 40 league appearances. He then left the club and moved to Hull City in the Premier League . After only three appearances there in the first half of the 2014/15 season , he played the second half of the season at Wigan Athletic in the Football League Championship and made 16 league appearances with a goal by the end of the season. He then returned to Hull and played a season in the championship again due to the previous relegation of his club. With Hull City he succeeded at the end of the season on the playoffs promotion to the Premier League, in which he completed 29 league games in the following season .

For the 2017/18 season , Maguire was signed by league rival Leicester City , who provided him with a contract that runs until June 30, 2022. There Maguire came in every league game in the season and scored two goals.

For the 2019/20 season, the defender moved to Manchester United , where he signed a contract until 2025. There he was appointed team captain in mid-January 2020 following the change of the previous captain Ashley Young by head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær .

On October 8, 2017, he made his debut in a 1-0 victory in the World Cup qualifier in Lithuania in the senior national team .
