Jesse Ellis Lingard (born December 15, 1992 in Warrington ) is an English football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with Manchester United in the Premier League and plays for the English national team .

Youth (until 2012)

Lingard is from Warrington , a city in north-west England. At the age of seven he was observed by scouts from Manchester United and Liverpool FC at his youth club Penketh United . In 2000 Lingard then moved to the Red Devils youth . On November 11, 2010 he played in the 2-2 draw against the U21s from West Bromwich Albion for the first time for the U21s of the Red Devils in the U21 Premier League . In the 2010/11 season he won the FA Youth Cup with the club's youth .

Loans and Premier League debut (2012 to 2015)

For the 2012/13 season Lingard moved up to the professional squad of Manchester United. Since he had no chance of playing minutes there, he was awarded for a year to the then second-rate club Leicester City , where he came on five missions in the season . On his return he was again awarded to the second division, this time to Birmingham City . There he scored all four goals in his first game on September 21, 2013 in a 4-1 home win against Sheffield Wednesday . In total, Lingard scored six goals in 13 appearances. Lingard returned to Manchester in January 2014 and played the remainder of the season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion . There he played 15 games and scored three goals. On August 16, 2014, the first day of the 2014/15 season , Lingard made his debut in the Premier League under the new coach Louis van Gaal in the Manchester United shirt . He was in the starting line-up in the 2-1 home defeat against Swansea City . He then dropped out due to a knee injury and did not come to any further missions. On February 2, 2015, Lingard was loaned to Derby County until the end of the season. There he came back to 14 missions and two goals in the Football League Championship.

Breakthrough at Manchester United (since 2015)

Lingard has been a member of the first team since the 2015/16 season and is regularly featured in the Premier League. On October 21, 2015, he made his debut at 1-1 at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League . He scored his first goal in the Premier League on November 7, 2015 to take a 1-0 lead after 52 minutes in a 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion . In total, he made 25 league appearances with four goals in the season and played four times the Champions League and three times the Europa League , in which he reached the round of 16 with the team . On May 21, 2016, Lingard won the FA Cup with Manchester United after scoring the goal in extra time to make it 2-1 . Lingard completed three games for the U17 selection of the English Football Association in 2008 . From 2013 he played for the U21 national team , for which he scored his first goal on March 30, 2015 in a 3-2 win in a friendly against Germany .
