The EFL League Two 2016/17 was the 13th season of the English EFL League Two as the fourth highest English division behind the Premier League , the EFL Championship and the EFL League One as well as the 25th season of the third highest division of the English Football League after the introduction of the Premier League in 1992. It started on August 6, 2016. The last matchday was May 6, 2017. The top three clubs, Portsmouth FC , Plymouth Argyle and Doncaster Rovers , were promoted straight to EFL League One, the Clubs in places four to seven played in play-off mode for fourth promotion place. Blackpool FC won the play-off final . Hartlepool United and Leyton Orient had to relegate .
