The Football League One 2008/09 was the fourth season of the Football League Two as the fourth highest English division behind the Premier League , the Football League Championship and the Football League One, as well as the 17th season of the third highest division of the Football League after the introduction of the Premier League in 1992.

The top three clubs Brentford FC , Exeter City and Wycombe Wanderers went straight to Football League One. The clubs in places four to seven determined the fourth promoted team in play-off mode. Here the Wycombe Wanderers prevailed.

Chester City and Luton Town rose to the National League and were replaced by Burton Albion and Torquay United the following season .
