The Football League Third Division 2001/02 was the tenth season of the Football League Third Division as only the fourth highest English football league and 44th fourth division season overall.
The top three clubs Plymouth Argyle , Luton Town and Mansfield Town went straight to the Football League Second Division. The clubs in places four to seven determined the fourth promoted team in play-off mode. Here the Cheltenham Town prevailed.
Halifax Town rose as bottom in the Football Conference and was replaced by Boston United the following season .
