The Football League One 2005/06 was the second season of the Football League Two as the fourth highest English division behind the Premier League , the Football League Championship and the Football League One as well as the 14th season of the third highest division of the Football League after the introduction of the Premier League in 1992.

The three best-ranked clubs Carlisle United , Northampton Town and Leyton Orient rose directly to Football League One. The clubs in places four to seven determined the fourth promoted team in play-off mode. Here the Cheltenham Town prevailed.

Oxford United and Rushden & Diamonds rose to the National League and were replaced by Accrington Stanley and Hereford United the following season .
