Thomas Born (artist)

Thomas Born (born August 24, 1952 in Berlin ) is a German photographer , artist and university lecturer .

life and work

Thomas Born studied applied arts and visual communication at the Berlin University of the Arts (HDK), photography at the Kassel University and at the Lette-Verein Berlin as well as art and cultural education at the (HDK) Berlin.

He began his freelance work together with Anna Elisa Heine in Göttingen in the "Media Art - Atelier for Fast Media" studio (1979–1982), since 1982 Media Art Berlin studio : free artistic projects, symposia and exhibitions.

In addition to his artistic work, he worked in cell research at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen (1975–1980) and as a freelance photographer for various magazines. He was co-founder and director of the Berlin bildo academy for art and media, the first media art college in the German-speaking area (1988–1996), as well as managing director of the company motion pixel, society for electronic image processing mbH (1990–2000).

From 1996 until his retirement in 2017 he was professor for digital media, experimental photography and perceptual theory at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin in the communication design course.
