Antonio Wannek (born June 27, 1979 in Berlin-Kreuzberg ) is a German actor .

Life

Wannek grew up in Berlin-Kreuzberg and at the age of 11 was hired away from the schoolyard for the main role in the series Much Hype about the scooter . In 1992 he starred in Wolfgang Becker's award-winning television film Children's Games , but then withdrew from professional acting for the time being. It was director Edward Berger who rediscovered him in 1997 at a school casting and cast him for his first leading role in the film Gomez - Heads or Tails - his streak of fate, as he retrospectively titled his work on the film. From that point on, Antonio Wannek knew that acting was his destiny.

For his portrayal of Marco in the television film Heartbeat by Hanno Brühl , he received the Günter Strack television award . His breakthrough came with Dominik Graf's film Der Felsen , for which he received the Shooting Star Award for European film from the European Film Promotion at the 2002 Berlinale . In the same year he was also nominated for the German Film Award as best leading actor for his performance in Graf's Film and in the feature film Wie Feuer und Flamme . He met the fame and hype surrounding his person with skepticism and unease, whereupon he initially canceled all projects. As time matured, further roles followed in films such as Stranger Friend and Seven Days Sunday , as well as in numerous television productions such as Störtebecker , Der Turm and Tatort .

Wannek is a member of the German and the European Film Academy .

He has been the father of a son since 2011. He lives with his family in Berlin.
