concept

The three 45-minute films tell self-contained stories that are inspired by authentic crimes in the world of young people. They approach the questions of how a person becomes a murderer from different perspectives , what has to happen in a person's life in order for an act to take place and whether everyone can become a murderer. It also shows whether and how modern technology can be used to identify potential murderers and predict crimes and perhaps even murders. The murders are not at the beginning of each story, but at the end of each story. Without an investigator, the viewer experiences first hand how a murder comes about.

1 Sex, drugs & rock'n roll Feb. 15, 2016 Thomas Stiller Thomas Stiller
In the rough biker and rocker milieu, the unemployed and alcoholic Lisa cannot get rid of her violent boyfriend, the tattooed, bald biker Frank. In a club, the rocker bride meets the easy-going tiler Alex, who does not drink alcohol and is otherwise completely different from her friend Frank. Alex helps her fend off a stranger who tries to take advantage of her drunken state, so the two of them go out for a coffee outside the club and exchange phone numbers. When Frank discovers a message from Alex on Lisa's cell phone a little later, in which he writes that he would like to see her again, he beats his girlfriend until she is hospitalized. When Frank later visits her in the hospital to reconcile with her, Lisa explains, supported by her friend Jenny, that the relationship has ended. Frank finds a place to stay with a rocker buddy and here he realizes how much he misses Lisa. Meanwhile, Alex visits Lisa in the hospital, and she quickly notices that she has fallen a little in love with the tiler. However, Lisa had got used to sex with Frank, and when she sleeps with Alex it feels like flower sex by comparison. Ex-boyfriend Frank, who seeks revenge but can no longer stand it without Lisa, intercepts Alex as he is leaving her apartment, beats him up and threatens to kill both of them if he continues to have contact with Lisa. Alex then breaks off contact with Lisa. Soon Frank is back on the mat with Lisa, who has had new locks installed in her apartment door, and asks her pardon on her knees. After a sexually satisfying night for both of them, they get back together. Lisa's mother is shocked by this and is justifiably worried about her daughter, because Frank quickly becomes aggressive again towards Lisa and forces her to have oral sex. Lisa struggles, however, bites him and stabs him, just as Frank is distracted by his pain, with the screwdriver with which he had threatened her and forced her to have sex. During the last few seconds you learn, when text is faded in, that Lisa didn't even want to cover up the crime and was sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter.
2 The policeman Feb. 22, 2016 Thomas Stiller Thomas Stiller
The police officer Joachim lives with his wife Olivia and his son Carsten in a new housing estate in Berlin. The marriage is broken, however, and Joachim and Olivia encounter each other cold and distant. As a career woman, Olivia has little time for her husband and son Carsten. When Joachim's examination for chief inspector is imminent, he seeks spiritual support from his new colleague Susanne and falls in love with her. When Olivia finds out about the relationship, their marriage threatens to fall apart.
3 The Extinction Feb. 22, 2016 Thomas Stiller Thomas Stiller
The Rückert family only seems to have sprung from a picture book at first glance. Father Holger is a teacher and a great advocate of virtues such as order and behavior. However, son Torben begins to rebel and clashes with his strict father more and more often. In addition, Holger's relationship between his son and his best friend Bernd seems more than platonic, and he finally wants to know whether Torben is gay. When Torben learns that his father has invested a large amount of money in a Swiss account, he forges a plan.

controversy

As early as September 2015, Frieder Otto Wolf , President of the Humanist Association of Germany (HVD) , asked the broadcaster RTL II "to change the title of the series immediately or to stop broadcasting under this title". This was justified with the unacceptable combination of religious freedom as an ideological attitude and the committing of homicides. In particular, the causal link between the catchphrase “godless” and the phrase “why people kill” is an intentional tightening of the presentation compared to the Dutch series original, that non-religious people pose a risk and thus a form of subtle discrimination , including sedition . The broadcaster rejected this allegation.

As a member of the media council of the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM) , the President of the Israelite Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, Charlotte Knobloch , wanted to have the compatibility of the title with the program principles checked.

Audience ratings

A total of 0.93 million viewers watched the first episode, which gives RTL II a poor market share of 2.7 percent. In the target group, 0.70 million viewers ensured a mediocre 5.5 percent market share. The second episode achieved a maue 2.5 percent market share for RTL II with 0.85 million viewers. A poor market share of 4.9 percent was determined for 14 to 49 year olds, which corresponds to 0.58 million viewers. The third episode had a very poor market share of 1.9 percent and a total of 0.61 million viewers. Among the 14 to 49 year olds, 0.37 million viewers were enough for a meager 3.3 percent market share in this group.
