Marc Conrad (born October 7, 1960 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg film producer , writer and media manager .

Career

The son of a railway official attended the Athénée Royale in Luxembourg from 1971 to 1979 and then studied at the Université libre de Bruxelles from 1980 to 1983 . At the same time, he worked as a freelancer for Luxembourg and French television and for the Luxembourg daily newspaper Journal.

In 1983 he began his career as a news editor for the TV station RTL plus . From 1987 he was chief of duty in the newsroom there. In May 1988 he became the personal advisor to RTL managing director Helmut Thoma . In 1990 he became authorized officer of the station and took over a. a. responsibility for film and series production. From February 1992 he was RTL program director and from January 1994 sole deputy managing director of RTL. During this time the news formats Explosiv - Das Magazin and Exclusiv - Das Starmagazin were introduced. Conrad established program structures that strongly influenced private television in Germany. Conrad is also regarded as a pioneer of German soap formats such as Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten , Unter uns , Behind bars and the daily talk show formats Hans Meiser and Ilona Christen .

After Helmut Thoma handed over the position of managing director to Gerhard Zeiler , Conrad left RTL and founded the film production company Typhoon Networks AG together with Friedrich Wildfeuer . There he produced numerous television programs for various German broadcasters and some movies. One of the greatest successes was the production of the film The Experiment . For the production of the television series Section 40 , Conrad was named Outstanding European Producer of the Year at the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo in 2003. For the same series he was awarded the German Television Prize from 2003 to 2005 as producer of the best series . Together with Hugo Egon Balder, Conrad is considered to be the inventor of the comedy show Genial besides . Together with Balder, Conrad developed the Friday Night News , a successful RTL comedy show, which is regarded as the forerunner of the ZDF heute show, which took over the head writers after the broadcast on RTL was discontinued. At the same time, Conrad was a member of the Board of Directors of Highlight Communications AG, Switzerland, and accompanied its IPO in May 1999.

In November 2004 Conrad returned to the RTL Group, where he took on the position of Managing Director. After only three and a half months, Conrad surprisingly had to give up his position as managing director after no consensus was found on the future positioning of the station with the shareholders.

Conrad then moved to the supervisory board of Constantin Film in May 2005 and from September 2005 worked as a producer and partner for Typhoon AG, of which he was re-appointed to the management board in January 2006. The production of the critically acclaimed television series In the Face of Crime finally led to the insolvency of Typhoon AG in April 2009 , because instead of the eight ordered and paid episodes, material for ten episodes was available and had to be produced. Conrad then founded his new production company ConradFilm.

Conrad is a member of the German Film Academy , the European Film Academy and the Producer Alliance . For several years he was a member of the jury of the German TV Prize .
