action
Jela Becker, the young mother of one daughter, is diagnosed with ovarian cancer by the doctor treating her . She only has a few weeks to live. From this point on she is accompanied by Grim Reaper. Jela is hoping for a 4-week delay to see her daughter's eighth birthday. She still doesn't know how to explain to her daughter Lucy that she will soon no longer be there for her. Husband Tom now also has to prepare for the role of single father.
Grim Reaper develops sympathy for Jela over time, which gives him hope that he was wrong about the door. That's why he chooses the nagging neighbor Mrs. Griek as his next victim. This, however, proves to be stubborn and bursting with health and will to live. Seeking consolation, Jela begins to see death as a lover who hugs her at the time of her death. This is the only way to endure the pain of parting.
Reviews
“Thanks to Christoph Maria Herbst, who played brilliantly as the bored Grim Reaper, Oscar winner Jochen Alexander Freydank [...] staged the serious topic in a relaxed and entertaining manner. [...] Funny: the brief appearance of Uwe Ochsenknecht as Großkotz, who is picked up by death right at the beginning. "
“Is that possible: a kind of comedy about a seriously cancerous woman, mother, wife? And on top of that on the Sat-1-Platz on Tuesday evening, which usually runs under the label "Romantic Comedy", so that viewers do not switch away from the sheer depth and sadness of private television? Yes it works. It even goes surprisingly well, which in "And weg bis du" is not least due to the main actors Annette Frier and Christoph Maria Herbst. "
“What director Jochen Alexander Freydank has come up with is rich in metaphors, because in the Greek legend, Charon's ferry across the Styx is the decisive step into the underworld. [...] The film is not a drama, but a tragic comedy, also or especially thanks to Herbst, the ' Stromberg ' -steen prankster. Obviously a subject that no director really wanted to dare to work on. Because according to producer Marc Conrad there were several rejections. Conrad speaks of 25, who would have had 'quirks' before a sensitive and difficult tragic comedy until Freydank was found, who was awarded the Oscar for best short film in 2009 for ' Toyland '.
"From this constellation, 'And you're gone' [...] could have become a terribly fluffy piece of clothing, but director Jochen Alexander Freydank ('Toy Land') turned it into an enchanting, touching tragicomedy."
“In their first film together, freezing and autumn enter into a strange symbiosis that can confidently be described as a bizarre love story. [...] In all of this, the film is far from being a piece of clothing that makes fun of a fatal disease. Instead, the thoughtful moments predominate. It's about saying goodbye and living consciously. 'And away are you' is still an easy work because it comes up with comic situations […] The film is above all an appeal to life. And he does that well. "
“A successful balancing act between comedy and tragedy. Christoph Maria Herbst and Annette Frier are a wonderful cast for this romantic couple. […] Director Jochen Alexander Freydank […] ensures that 'And you are gone' doesn’t become a comedy, although the script really doesn’t lack punch lines and slapstick scenes. The wonderfully successful balancing act between comedy and tragedy alone makes this film, initiated and produced by Marc Conrad, a very special work. Peetz and Freydank manage the rare feat of shedding tears with laughter and compassion, especially since the supporting roles, which are no less excellent, add a lot to the good mood. "
