Ilona Christen (born May 26, 1951 as Ilona Kleitz in Saarbrücken , † July 31, 2009 in Ennetbürgen , Switzerland ) was a German - Swiss television and radio presenter .

Life

Ilona Christen's mother ran a laundry, the father left the family. After graduating from elementary school, she began training as a photo saleswoman in her hometown in 1966. From April 1969 onwards, Christen completed a three-year editing training course at Saarland Broadcasting Corporation . She then worked for three years as a video mixer, from 1973 also as a television announcer; she was the first TV announcer with glasses at the SR. In 1976 she began working as a presenter at SR radio, at Europawelle Saar . She was awarded the Kurt Magnus Prize for the ARD program Reporter auf Ort , in which she investigated the problems of Bundeswehr soldiers and circus life, among other things. From 1982 to 1986 Christen presented the tele-illustrated and the ZDF-Info Gesundheit program ; in the following years also the ZDF city tournament and tandem - season for partner cities .

From 1986 to 1992 Christen presented the ZDF television garden . In 1993 she finally switched to RTL . There she led from September 13, 1993 to August 20, 1999 through a talk show bearing her name , which was produced by her own company, the Voice Company, based in Hürth . Another production by this company was the talk show Sabrina , also running on RTL , moderated by Sabrina Staubitz . Shortly before the end of both programs, the Voice Company was sold. In 2001 the company filed for bankruptcy because it had not been able to place new programs. In the mid-1990s, in addition to her talk show work, Christen also advertised laundry detergents and other products. Christen had lived in Switzerland since his marriage in 1982 to the Lucerne building contractor Ambros Christen (* 1956). She has not been employed since 2000. Christians had Swiss citizenship.

Christen died on July 31, 2009 at the age of 58 in Switzerland from the consequences of a serious fall on July 8, 2009. She broke the collarbone and suffered from massive bruises and blood poisoning (sepsis) .
