occupation

The program is a German television film from 2016 by director Till Endemann . It ran on January 4, 2016 on First German Television . The thriller with Nina Kunzendorf and Benjamin Sadler in the leading roles is about a banker who is accepted into a witness protection program with his family because he is supposed to testify against an important member of the underworld.

action

Victor Miro, an important witness in the trial against the Hamburg underworld great Philip Darankow, lost his life in a bomb attack. This made Simon Dreher, a senior executive at a Hamburg private bank, one of the most important key witnesses . He is accused of money laundering for Philip Darankow and the LKA officer Ursula Thern offers Dreher to take him and his family into a witness protection program, which Dreher initially refuses. Only when he is shot by a sniper does he consent.

The family has to leave their usual life behind and cut off contact with friends. In particular, Dreher's wife Rieke, who had already planned a new beginning in Portugal with her lover Rolf, and daughter Lona, whose fiancé David had proposed marriage to her shortly before, this change is difficult.

The family gets new identities and a new home in North Tyrol . Dreher initially rejects all allegations and insists that he did not know anything about the illegal business of his customer Darankow. Thern suspects, however, that Dreher let himself be shot on purpose. In addition, a witness reports that Dreher claims to have seen Darankow in Liechtenstein , where a foundation for money laundering was being set up. During a confrontation , the LKA officers and the witnesses are shot at. Three policemen are killed. This makes it clear that Darankow knows about the family's whereabouts. Dreher is now ready to cooperate and testify. The family has to move again.

Thern finds out that LKA employee Nadja Lenz has been bought by Darankow and has been given the task of shooting lathe operators. She apparently does this too. However, the murder is staged to convince Darankow of the death of Dreher. Even the Dreher's family was not privy to make the production seem absolutely credible.

At the end you see Lenz's body lying in the forest. It remains unclear whether she committed suicide or was murdered.

Reviews

Joachim Huber considers the film in the Tagesspiegel to be a clever and exciting crime drama. He speaks of "high tension and a (em) high point in the still early fiction year 2016" and of a great ensemble. He particularly praises the portrayal of Nina Kunzendorf and Paula Kalenberg. Elmar Krekeler writes in Die Welt that the program is “a classic, a fine drama” and tells “in an extremely tense and deeply sharp manner in all conceivable facets, as sober as it is intense.” “A natural, highly enlightening narrative flow develops.”
