Kasem Hoxha (born August 12, 1968 in Tirana , Albania ) is a German- Albanian actor .

Life

Family and escape

Hoxha was born in the Albanian capital Tirana during the communist-Stalinist dictatorship under Enver Hoxha . He grew up there with his family as one of five children in very poor circumstances and experienced the arbitrariness of the Hoxha regime. As a child, Hoxha wanted to be an actor. Between the ages of four and six, Hoxha lived with his grandparents for family reasons; he always returned to his family at the beginning of school. His father died of lung cancer when Kasem Hoxha was a child. At the age of 16, Hoxha went to boarding school. At that time he was also consciously concerned with the political situation in Albania for the first time.

From 1988 he did his two years military service in northern Albania; he was stationed in the middle of the mountains in the northernmost part of the country. Because of his skills and dexterity in Morse code and telegraphing , he was employed in the telegraph station. At the beginning of July 1990, immediately after his discharge from military service, he joined a political protest and resistance group and fled as a politically persecuted person to the German embassy in Tirana , where he spent about a week, sometimes without food and drinks and without health or medical care Supplying thousands of others in a confined space in isolation from the outside world. With a refugee transport organized by NATO he was on the 8th / 9th. From 1999 to 2002 he finally did an acting training with the Actor's Company in Aschaffenburg ; There he completed an acting seminar with the director Torsten Stoll, who later became his acting teacher, in order to determine his artistic aptitude for the profession. In 1999 he also completed a seminar in Method Acting ( Lee Strasberg / Uta Hagen ) with John Costopoulos at the Actor's Studio in New York City .

From 2000 to 2004 he had nationwide theater engagements. a. in Death of a Salesman (as Willy Loman; director: Torsten Stoll), Die Kaktusblüte (as Norbert and Herr Cochet; director: Susanne Frey), Minna von Barnhelm (as host, director: Jurek Makarowsk) and in the gangster comedy Treue or Hochtseitstag by Chazz Palminteri (Director: Torsten Stoll).

Movie and TV

Hoxha now works almost exclusively for film and television. He is often used in crime and action films in the role of evil.

He had his first film role, while still at the drama school, in a diploma film from the Art Academy for Media Cologne (KHM Cologne). In an e-mail to Schweiger, which he then published, Hoxha reported in moving words about his own escape and backed Schweiger for his plans.

Hoxha lives in Cologne .
