action

Till Reiners, who used to be a rock musician, is frustrated by his monotonous life, his work as a bank clerk and his marriage to his wife Miriam. The petty criminal Nappo tries to apply for a loan in the bank to buy an old Ford Mustang , but Reiners refuses it for lack of collateral. The next day, Nappo robbed the bank in a Mr. T suit and was abandoned by his getaway driver. He first wants to take a colleague of Reiners hostage with him, but she interferes, so that Nappo finally takes Reiners hostage himself and they flee with his car from the approaching police.

On the run they come to an accident site, Nappo takes off his mask in order not to attract the attention of the police responsible for the accident. Later they both wait for the next day in a remote hut, they talk to each other, Till talks about his son, Nappo encourages him to sing, they discover that they both like the same music. The next morning, Nappo takes his hostage to buy a car from the criminal junkyard owner Langer. There he buys the Ford Mustang, Till helps him negotiate the price and Nappo releases Till shortly afterwards. Back home, Till meets a naked man in a marriage bed and mistakenly thinks that his wife Miriam has cheated on him. In reality, Miriam's friend Ina had used a visit to the empty house for a quickie.

Totally desperate, he runs out of the house and meets Nappo there. He got an order from the junkyard owner Langer to buy stolen securities from Albanians in Amsterdam and needs Till's help for this. They take Nappo's friend Nadine with them and leave for Holland together . On the way Till is recognized by an employee at a gas station as a wanted hostage victim, but Till shows the man an arrogant Porsche driver as a hostage-taker, as he had almost run into him shortly before on the gas station premises. The gas station employee then beats up the Porsche driver and Till continues to flee with Nappo and Nadine. The events recorded by surveillance cameras at the gas station lead the police to assume that Till Nappos is an accomplice.

After the deal with the Albanians in Amsterdam, the situation escalates: Till, who cannot tolerate alcohol and has to toast the business with vodka, freaks out completely, a fight ensues, and without Nappo knowledge, he takes the money from the Albanians again. All three of them experience a wild night in Amsterdam, Till later separates from the other two, attends a concert by his favorite band Donar and is filmed for a live stream during stage diving; his wife Miriam happens to see him at home in this stream. At the end of the night, the remaining money of the Albanians burns in a police car stolen by Till.

Miriam, who only found out about the original hostage situation too late, sets off for Holland to fight for her husband. After the Albanians kidnap them to extort their money back, Nappo helps his new buddy, who has desperately robbed a bank to get the money back, and frees Miriam in a showdown. Till is shot and seriously injured while leaving the bank, but Nappo, who has fled, later relieves him through a video so that Till only has to serve a short prison sentence and can soon return to his family.

Soundtrack

The film music and soundtrack come from the Cowboys on Dope (COD), consisting of Peter Sarach, Wolly Düse and Thorsten Dohle in collaboration with Eddy Coupé. The Cologne band also plays the role of Donar in the film.

The Berlin rapper Sido contributed as the theme song of the film Fühl dich frei .

background

The film was shot from April 13, 2013 to June 8, 2013 in and around Cologne and Wuppertal as well as in Amsterdam. The character Mark Kampmann appears as in Bang Boom Bang - A sure-fire thing and golden times . Nappo's Ford Mustang has the same license plate “DO-PE 69” as Keeks (the protagonist) Ford Taunus in Bang Boom Bang . Til Schweiger has a cameo and plays himself - self-deprecatingly. The well-known Let's Players Gronkh and Sarazar also have a cameo.

criticism

Kino.de rated the work as "turbulent" and "entertaining".

“Just like Jasmin Gerat as a slutty gangster lover and Anna Maria Mühe as a frustrated wife, they peel real and even lovable characters out of the clichés, certainly staged by Peter Thorwarth, who has felt very at home in the Ruhr area since his film debut 'Bang Boom Bang'. "
