Bonnie & Bonnie is a German fiction film by Ali Hakim from 2019 about two young women in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg who fall in love with each other and thus encounter numerous resistance.

17-year-old Yara lives with her father, who comes from Albania, and her three siblings in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. She works in a supermarket and also takes care of the family household. One day she meets Kiki, who is about the same age and grew up in youth homes. The two fall in love at first sight. For Yara the relationship means a new, previously unknown freedom, for Kiki it is the first time that she experiences closeness and feels belonging. But the love of the two young women must remain a secret. In particular, Yara's conservative father, who has already chosen a husband for his daughter, and her brother Bekim, who is interested in Kiki himself, are not allowed to find out about it. When it turns out that the two are in a relationship, the couple flees to the south of France, where Kiki's sister is said to be.

Director Ali Hakim himself grew up in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. Since 2011 he has had his own film production company let's be awesome , with which he realizes his own projects as a producer , director and author . Bonnie & Bonnie is his first feature film.

The film premiered on June 14, 2019 at the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival . There he was nominated for the NDR Film Prize for Young Talent. Between August 29 and 31, 2019, Bonnie & Bonnie was shown in Munich, Stuttgart and Berlin at the queer film festival.
