Ali Hakim

Ali Hakim (born August 3, 1985 in Kabul ) is a German-Afghan film director and screenwriter .

Life

Born in Kabul to Afghan parents, he fled to Germany with his family in 1989. Here he finished his school career with the Abitur. His philosophy teacher gave him the idea to study film after he became very interested in Citizen Kane , Goodfellas and Endstation Sehnsucht .

Immediately after graduating from high school, he began a career in the film industry as an intern in the RTL series The Lawyers . This is followed by other jobs in the AL assistant, video operator, 2nd assistant director, production driver and set manager.

In 2008 he began his studies at the media academy in Hamburg. During and after his studies he produced and directed various short and advertising films. His graduation film Crazy In Love was broadcast on NDR in 2011 as part of a nomination for the Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award .

Since 2011 he has been running his film production let's be awesome filmproduction .

In 2013 he traveled to Herat in Afghanistan and shot the short film Taweez - The Talisman Writer there with a small team under the protection of Afghan soldiers . The film ran very successfully at festivals around the world, including the A Festival in Montreal, Heartland Indianapolis, Yerevan and Chicago.

His first animated film as a producer followed in 2017. The Round by director Ceylan Beyoglu celebrated its world premiere at the Childrens Festival in Busan and tells of an Afghan traffic policeman who is one day replaced by a traffic light. The production of the ten-minute short film took 2.5 years.

A year later he applied for the new season of the newcomer series Nordlichter , initiated and financed by NDR, the Hamburg Film Fund and Nordmedia . The film Bonnie & Bonnie , originally produced for television, became his first full-length film as a director and screenwriter and was released in theaters on October 24, 2019 thanks to the distributor Edition Salzgeber . He wrote the screenplay together with the Hamburg screenwriter Maike Rasch . Was produced Bonnie & Bonnie from the Riva Filmproduktion GmbH.
