action

A man and a teenager cross the German border and drive through the Black Forest . From the behavior of the two towards each other, it quickly becomes clear to the viewer that it is not a question of father and daughter. When two teenagers steal a laptop bag from their car while they were resting at night, the man chased the thieves who were fleeing the winding streets on scooters . The pursuer catches up with the perpetrator, but when he throws away the bag during the escape, he accidentally hits the scooter. Driver and scooter tumble down a slope.

The investigators Berg and Tobler are called to the dead person on the precipice. Since it is clear that there was outside interference - a red side mirror is found - Friedemann Berg takes over the investigation. Meanwhile, Franziska Tobler is taking care of the case of the missing Emily Arnold, which has been open for two years, because her mother believes - once again - that she recently saw her daughter. Friedemann thinks this is a waste of time, Franziska still follows the clues.

The investigators learn from the friend of the thief who died in the accident what happened before the fatal accident. Thanks to this information, the accident vehicle can be found in Freiburg. It contains Emily Arnold's fingerprints, as well as dog food and hair. Emily may still be alive, but she is not alone. Meanwhile, the audience witnesses the ambivalent relationship between Emily and her companion Martin Nussbaum. The two have quartered themselves in an abandoned ski hut in the forest. Martin Nussbaum visits his mother several times, who runs a gardening business with his brother Rolf in Freiburg. He intends to get a large sum of money from his mother, supposedly for his professional future, to emigrate to Brazil with Emily. Meanwhile, Emily remains in the woods with her dog. While looking for her runaway dog, she finds him at a gas station and makes friends with a girl of about the same age who works there.

Since his brother prevents the cash payment, Martin's plan fails. He previously killed Emily's dog. When the girl finds out, she packs her things in a rage and a heated argument ensues. In the end, Martin and Emily are found because the slain dog's chip leads Tobler and Berg on the trail of Nussbaum. Martin is arrested and Emily returns to her mother.

Reviews

“Playmate, fatherly friend, rapist - Andreas Lust opens up all the pathological facets of his character without relativizing their guilt for a second. Nussbaum is a poor sausage who has never made it into the adult world, and an ingenious manipulator who builds up a perfidious fairy tale world for his victim, from which she tries to free herself in the course of this 'crime scene' that stirs up to the limit of pain. "

“Even if the man is aggressive and highly manipulative, director Julia von Heinz tries not to make little Emily look like a victim. Whether that was successful and justifiable will certainly cause discussions. In any case, this Emily is played by Meira Durand in a terrific way: very self-confident and yet searching, trying things out, crazy, tender, strong, wonderfully ambivalent - just like her relationship with the man she runs away with. "

The film service rated the film with four out of five possible stars and praised it as a "crime thriller that masters its difficult subject in an exceptionally gripping manner thanks to a sensitive script and excellent actors."
