Solstice is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The contribution produced by Südwestrundfunk is the 1058th Tatort episode and was broadcast on May 13, 2018 on Das Erste . The Freiburg investigator duo Tobler and Berg is investigating its second case.

action

The Böttger family runs a farm in the Black Forest with great dedication, close to nature and connected to farming traditions. When the eldest daughter Sonnhild suddenly dies, Franziska Tobler and Friedemann Berg investigate the death.

Berg has known Volkmar Böttger since school and is impressed by how enthusiastic and principled his childhood friend manages his large family and the farm. Because the coroner does not confirm a suspicion of incorrect diabetes treatment against the Böttgers doctor, Berg is relieved that the family can mourn in peace. Franziska Tobler, however, considers the doctor's statements to be protective claims and also has other clues to keep the investigation going, because the victim was pregnant, which was only determined during the autopsy. In addition, the behavior of Torsten Schmidt, Sonnhild's fiancé who lives on the farm, and the younger sister Mechthild are striking. Both respond evasively to questions about Sonnhild's life and her illness. In general, the life of the Böttgers, which is completely focused on the farm and the community, seems strange to Tobler. Berg, on the other hand, comes from a Black Forest farm himself and can better understand the commitment to small-scale farming and the fervor with which Böttger talks about it. Especially since Volkmar welcomes him with open arms, wants to revive the previous friendship and actively helps with Berg's Zibärtle harvest with the whole family .

When Tobler finds out that Torsten Schmidt belongs to a homeland security team and has a relevant criminal record, Berg also takes a closer look. It comes to light that a V-man died in the past , who also died of diabetes and was a member of the homeland security team. Their suspicion that Schmidt also works as an undercover agent for the police is confirmed, but they have to keep this secret for reasons of state security. The commissioners gradually discover inconsistencies not only in the statements made by the Böttgers about Sonnhild's last months and her death, but also in their attitudes, which are strongly reminiscent of ethnic settlers. Berg realizes that his old friend wants to pull him more and more to his side. Since a large networking meeting of her group is planned, Böttger hopes for Berg's benevolent support.

After Sonnhild's sister gives the inspectors the cell phone of the dead, which among other things shows a video of Sonnhild with a foreign refugee, the investigations focus more and more on Torsten Schmidt. He had found out that his girlfriend had been unfaithful to him and had planned to leave the farm and the community. He could not and would not allow this betrayal. As Tobler found out, a certain rat poison produced a type of diabetes 3 in low doses, from which those affected then died. When Schmidt is about to be arrested, he flees into the forest, where he is found dead after a long search.

It remains unclear whether Schmidt killed himself or whether a liaison from the State Security or the Homeland Security Squadron had a hand in it.

Reviews

Christian Buß Spiegel Online judged: “von Der Schwarzwald-'Tatort '[...] loses a bit of sharpness towards the end despite all the coherence of the setting. Even if the creeping incursion of racism into the idyllic species is visually captivating - the entanglements with V-men and state security seem dutifully put on, as if trying to convince the somewhat slower thinkers in the audience that the farmers are really angry. "

At Die Zeit , Matthias Dell assessed: “The whole realm of organic blood and soil is marveled at like a UFO that has just landed from the distance [...]. At this point you can once again register that the crime scene is closer to the theater than to the television series: the characters always start from scratch instead of going through developments over the course of the series. "

Elmar Krekeler from WELT magazine sees this crime scene: “Beautiful pictures, beautiful forest, nasty premonitions, fine game. A horror film. "

At the FAZ , Oliver Junge said: "The new 'Tatort' team from Freiburg remains true to itself: The second, atmospherically dense case is no less gloomy than the start."

Thomas Gehringer from Tittelbach.tv saw it in a similar way and wrote: “As in the first film 'Goldbach', this second Black Forest 'crime scene' is also a good example of a series of crime thrillers that are thematically and aesthetically immersed in its landscape in which he plays. And who wants to tell something about life in this landscape and the people who are shaped by it. Pictures, mood, speed. ”“ A multi-faceted, visually strong 'landscape crime thriller' that goes its own way even with apparently grazed motifs such as the V-Mann affair. ”
