He accompanied his wife Elena to a cosmetic operation in the Black Forest, but he spent the evening of his death with another woman. As it turned out later, he had planned this very specifically, because he had learned from a friend that Romy Schindler worked as a nurse in this clinic, whom he knew very well from her earlier time in Karlsruhe, where she had worked for an escort service.

Romy Schindler gave up her old job when she became pregnant and had now started a new life as a mother at the side of a man who accepts her past. Nevertheless, she cannot get rid of men completely, and neither does men from her. Every now and then she secretly sneaks away in the evening to meet with others. This was also the case on the evening when she went to Philipp Kiehl's hotel because he had asked her to do so after he had met her in the clinic. Tobler and Berg question Romy Schindler, who admits to have slept with Kiehl, but he was still alive when she left him. Her partner, the clinic director Dr. David Hans, is questioned because an act of jealousy cannot be ruled out. Hans has no alibi for the period of the crime and claims to tolerate his girlfriend's way of life.

For the commissioners, Schindler and Hans are the main suspects, so they focus their investigations on these two. Hans then makes a confession to Commissioner Tobler, but she points out that he cannot simply admit an act just to protect his girlfriend. Because Romy Schindler also makes a confession very quickly. She would have killed Kiehl because he allegedly raped her. But since Hans also sticks to his statement, this leads Schindler to tell the truth after all. Kiehl had threatened to make public what she had earned her money with in Karlsruhe. He also believed he was the father of Schindler's 6-year-old son, so he wanted to "take him away" from her. She thought up the rape because she hoped to plead for self-defense.

Subplot

In the carnival confusion, Tobler and Berg unplanned get closer and end up in bed together. This is both embarrassing and they don't know how to deal with it, especially since Tobler lives with her boyfriend Ari. This fact puts a strain on your working atmosphere and makes it difficult to work together. After the case has been solved and Tobler comes home, Ari has moved out of their shared bedroom.
