Alexander Vladimirovich Dwornikow ( Russian Александр Владимирович Дворников *  22. August 1961 in Ussuriysk , Primorsky Krai ) is a Russian Colonel General and Hero of the Russian Federation . Since September 20, 2016 [obsolete] he has been Commander of the Armed Forces of the South Military District .

Life

In 1979 he joined the Red Army . After graduating from the Frunze Military Academy in 1991, Dwornikow was employed in the group of the Soviet armed forces in Germany .

From 1992 to 1994 Major Dwornikow commanded the 154th Battalion of the 6th Motorized Guards Rifle Brigade . From 1995 to 2000 he was chief of staff of a regiment in the Moscow military district. From 2000 to 2003, Dwornikov, who had meanwhile been promoted to colonel, was deployed in the North Caucasus military district.

In 2005 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and then became Chief of Staff of the 36th Army in the Siberian Military District. From 2008 to 2010 , Dwornikow , who has meanwhile been promoted to major general , commanded the 5th Army in the Far East military district. From 2011 to 2012 he was Deputy Commander of the Eastern Military District. On December 13, 2012 Dwornikow was promoted to lieutenant general. From 2012 to 2015 he was First Deputy Commander of the Central Military District. On 13 December 2014 he was appointed Colonel-General conveyed.

From September 2015 to June 2016 he commanded the Russian troops in Syria , until he was replaced by Alexander Shuravlyov . The Russian air and space forces made over 9,000 flights during his command. On March 17, 2016, Dwornikov received the Hero of the Russian Federation award. Since September 20, 2016 [obsolete] he has been in command of the armed forces of the southern military district.
