action

Main story

Detective Inspector Judith Mohn actually has a day off, but the missing person report of a 16-year-old boy makes her break off her fishing trip. The fears of the mother, Kathrin Brandmann, come true and the boy is found dead in the lake. In her investigation, Mohn first comes across the boy's group of friends, who are very cautious about Marlon and the relationship with him. Only Lukas is talkative and is visibly affected by the death of his friend. According to him, Marlon had last met with Sharif Masmoudi. Judith Mohn and her colleague Freddy Breyer check this and after they find out that Masmoudi is plagiarizing modern sneakers , they suspect the murder motive here. But the suspect has an alibi. So the investigation is focused on the group of friends, where Marlon was an outsider in itself. The group is led by Florian Berger, who everyone can only call 'Number Six'. Judith Mohn soon finds out why. There was a kind of competition in the group to see which of the young people would "lay down" the most girls. Marlon hadn't taken part and even campaigned for the girls. As it turns out, Florian Berger had not conquered his sixth girl voluntarily, but raped her in front of all group members. Only Marlon had rebelled against it, which is why he was called a traitor by everyone. Berger even calls him "gay" and gives that as the reason why Marlon was the outsider. Mohn takes up this hint and initially suspects Marlon's father of having failed to get along with his son's sexual orientation. But since Karl Brandmann accuses Marlon's friend Lukas of seducing his son and he himself has an alibi for the time of the crime, Mohn wants to speak to Lukas. She finds him at the lake where Marlon died. Lukas looks very desperate to her. He claims that Marlon told him he was in love with him. That's why they quarreled and Marlon fell with his head on a stone. Since he stopped moving, he would have pushed him into the water. Mohn takes Lukas to the presidium so that he can make a voluntary disclosure. Jenny also finds the courage to report the rape.

Subplot

Commissioner Judith Mohn grew up in the former miners' settlement near the French border where the victim lived and is visiting her mother for the first time in 20 years. Their encounter is not very cordial. Mohn accuses her mother of preventing her studies so that she should stay with her. Without a degree, Mohn had to struggle through the senior service, which she had managed.

Filming

The shooting under the working title Still Waters Are Deep took place from August 7th to September 5th, 2018 in Saarbrücken and the surrounding area.

reception

Audience rating

The first broadcast on ZDF by Still rests der See on April 4, 2020 was seen by 7.14 million viewers in Germany and achieved an above-average market share of 19.9 percent. This increased the audience's interest in comparison to the second part Jette is dead by about half.

criticism

Harald Keller from tittelbach.tv rated this episode positively and said: “For the third film in the series […], as with the pilot film […], Harald Göckeritz and Miguel Alexandre are responsible for the script, and Alexandre is also responsible for the design and staging. In this case, a happy teamwork. In finely chiseled images and well thought-out scenes, a settlement community is recorded whose members have lost touch or at least feel that way. Since the pictures tell so much in and of themselves, the dialogues can be designed to be concise and unaffected and thus realistic. "

In Quotenmeter.de put Julian Miller states: The script contains "only clichés," because "the self-reflection of poppy Mother hands over schwurbelige Calendar Awards (a simple woman who always had bad luck in life ') is not out, and shows yet a greater degree of introspection than the dramaturgy would actually do well. ”“ The film could now trace the overemphasis on (local) imprinting, the opposites of identity and personal emancipation, the mutual social insults between different social milieus in one and the same family . But «In Truth» has only limited interest in that. It wouldn't be striking enough either. "

Tilmann P. Gangloff evaluates for evangelisch.de and wrote: “Seldom has a crime story been told so calmly as the third film with Christina Hecke as the detective of the Saarlouis criminal police. The special attraction of the story lies in Judith Mohn's confrontation with her roots. ”“ The film thrives above all on the many levels of the story, which is not only about alleged blackmail and actual homosexuality, but also about an adolescent bet as well when sex becomes rape. No wonder that 'Still the lake is at rest' works mainly through the figures. "

The editorial staff of TV Spielfilm rated the crime thriller as mediocre (“thumbs straight”) and said: “The figure poppy, situated between coolness and laboriously controlled impatience, is not uninteresting. The recourse to her painful biography seems artificial, the case is not very explosive. ”Conclusion:“ Good milieu study, but too little crime story. ”
