Heinrich Roleff (born August 25, 1878 in Unna ; † November 5, 1966 ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster from 1936 to 1966 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Roleff entered the Collegium Borromaeum in Münster to study theology at the Catholic Royal Academy . After graduating in August 1902, he moved into the seminary and received on 6 June 1903 along with 56 other young men in the high cathedral by Bishop Hermann Jakob Dingelstad the sacrament of Holy Orders . Joseph Lodde , who was tortured to death in 1943 in Dachau concentration camp , also belonged to his ordination course .

On August 28, 1903, Bishop Dingelstadt appointed him chaplain to St. Antonius in Hörstel and on August 17, 1908 second chaplain to St. Johannes Nepomuk in Burgsteinfurt and religion teacher at the local evangelical high school Arnoldinum , before moving up on December 23, 1913 the first chaplain changed. During this long time, Roleff mainly looked after the Catholic journeymen's association , the Catholic workers' association and the welfare association. In 1926, Bishop Johannes Poggenburg appointed him pastor of St. Nicomedes in Borghorst , before the new Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen also appointed him dean of the Burgsteinfurt dean's office . The same called Roleff in 1935 as clergyman to the vicariate general in Münster.

On March 7, 1936, Pope Pius XI appointed Roleff as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Münster and titular bishop of Elaea . He was ordained bishop on April 26th of the same year by Bishop von Galen. Coconscrators were the Cologne auxiliary bishop Wilhelm Stockums and the Paderborn auxiliary bishop Augustinus Philipp Baumann . The Münster cathedral chapter elected him cathedral dean on December 10, 1936 , and Bishop von Galen appointed him chairman of the Diocesan Caritas Association of Münster on April 15, 1937 as successor to Heinrich Weber .

  • 1953: Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
  • 1953: On the occasion of his golden jubilee as a priest, Heinrich Roleff became the first honorary citizen of the then independent town of Borghorst.
  • 1997: The senior center Heinrich-Roleff-Haus in Steinfurt-Borghorst is named after him.
