The St. Johannes Nepomuk Church is a Catholic church building in the Burgsteinfurt district of Steinfurt .

History and architecture

The church goes back to a church building which was built between 1721 and 1724 according to plans by the builder Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius and his brother Peter Pictorius the Elder. J. was built. The Simultaneum of the Great Church thus ended for good . In the middle of the 19th century, the church space was no longer sufficient for the meanwhile increased number of parishioners. Therefore the old baroque church was built between 1883 and 1885 according to plans by the diocesan master builder Hilger Hertel the Elder. Ä. (Münster) expanded and redesigned. The orientation to the south was retained. On the south side of the previously four-bay church, a transept with an apse and two sacristies were added after the retracted choir was laid down; the hall church was designed as a cruciform church and the interior in the style of neo-Romanesque or neo-Gothic.

Furnishing

The Steinfurt Madonna , a clad figurine from the Baroque period, was taken over from the Johanniterkommende . In the apse hangs the altar painting from the 18th century; the flanking figures are also from the old high altar. The coat of arms, which hung in combination with the altar painting in the apse until the renovation, has been attached to the organ gallery since the last renovation, as it was only made later in the 20th century. The baroque font is in the apse. The benches and confessionals come from the Neo-Romanesque period.
