Heinrich Baaken

Heinrich Baaken (born March 13, 1900 in Budberg ; † May 11, 1976 ) was a German clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster .

Life

Heinrich Baaken grew up in a farming family in the Lower Rhine part of the Münster diocese. He attended the Adolfinum grammar school in Moers , where he graduated from high school in 1918. He then studied philosophy and theology in Münster. On 26 May 1923 he was Archbishop John Poggenburg for priests ordained .

Baaken was chaplain in Duisburg, which at that time still belonged to the diocese of Münster, from 1931 parish rector of the parish of St. Franziskus in Duisburg- Hamborn and from 1946 pastor of St. Bonifatius in Duisburg. In 1948 he was elected city ​​dean of Duisburg . On January 26, 1952, Pope Pius XII appointed him . auxiliary bishop in Münster and titular bishop of Gordus .

He received his episcopal ordination on March 25th of the same year from Bishop Michael Keller . Heinrich Baaken chose the biblical phrase "Christ must grow" as the episcopal motto. ( Joh 3,30  EU )

From 1952 to 1966, in addition to his duties as auxiliary bishop, Baaken headed the school department of the diocese. As a council father , he participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . In 1967 he was appointed cathedral dean in Münster. During the vacancy after the election of Bishop Joseph Höffner as Archbishop of Cologne in 1969, he headed the diocese of Münster as vicar of the capitular until the appointment of Bishop Heinrich Tenhumberg .

During his tenure as auxiliary bishop he consecrated more than 100 newly built churches.
