Titular diocese of Gordus
Gordus ( Italian : Gordo ) is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
The ancient bishopric was in Asia Minor , the former Roman province of Lydia . The city is now called Gördes and is located about 150 km northeast of Izmir in what is now Turkey. It has around 10,000 inhabitants.
Ancient Gordo is associated with Saint Carpus , who is considered the bishop of "Iulia Gordos" and who was martyred with 44 followers in the area of Sardis around the year 165 because he refused to practice the Roman imperial cult. The city of Sardis was then the capital of the ancient province of Lydia, which is mentioned in the Revelation of John (Rev 3: 1-2).
