Ansgar Puff (born January 8, 1956 in Mönchengladbach ) is cathedral chapter and auxiliary bishop in Cologne .

Life

Ansgar Puff was born in 1956 as the second of four children in Mönchengladbach and grew up in Bonn - Bad Godesberg . After graduating from Aloisiuskolleg in Bad Godesberg and doing community service , he first studied social work in Cologne . During his studies he lived with Franciscans in a socially deprived area in Cologne-Vingst. He then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn .

On 26 June 1987 he received by Bishop Walter Jansen , the ordination was then four years chaplain at St. Bruno in Cologne Klettenberg and from 1991 to St. Theodore in Cologne-Vingst and St. Elizabeth in Höhenberg. On September 1, 1996 he became the leading pastor in Düsseldorf at the parishes of St. Pius X. Eller-West , St. Josef Oberbilk and St. Apollinaris . Since July 1, 2008, he has also been pastor of the pastoral care area in Unter- and Oberbilk, Friedrichstadt and Eller-West. From 2004 to 2012 Puff was deputy city dean in Düsseldorf. On May 1, 2012, Archbishop Joachim Cardinal Meisner appointed him director of the pastoral care staff department in the Archbishop's General Vicariate. In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI awarded him the honorary title of chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ). Puff belongs to the spiritual community " Neocatechumenal Way ".

Pope Francis appointed Ansgar Puff as titular bishop of Gordus and auxiliary bishop in Cologne on June 14, 2013 . The episcopal ordination by Cardinal Meisner took place on September 21, 2013 in Cologne Cathedral . Co-consecrators were the Cologne auxiliary bishops Manfred Melzer and Dominikus Schwaderlapp . His motto “Misericordia sua salvat” - “Saved through his mercy” comes from the apostle Paul's letter to Titus ( Tit 3.5  EU ). On September 22, 2013 he was introduced as a member of the Cologne Cathedral Chapter . As Episcopal Vicar , Ansgar Puff is responsible for the pastoral district south of the Archdiocese of Cologne, which includes the city of Bonn, the district of Euskirchen , the Rhein-Sieg district and the Rheinisch-Bergische district as well as the parishes in the districts of Altenkirchen and Neuwied belonging to the Archdiocese of Cologne . In February 2014 he was appointed chairman of the diocesan Caritas Association , on April 14, 2015 as Episcopal Vicar for the Poor and Caritas and on June 23, 2020 as Episcopal Vicar for the Diocesan Council of Catholics in the Archdiocese. From October 31, 2014 to April 2015, he was Episcopal Vicar for the International Catholic Pastoral Care. He is currently acting head of the Cologne Center for Catholic Homeless Pastoral Care GUBBIO in the former Franciscan monastery . In summer he holds weekly consultation hours in Cologne on the cathedral stairs between Cologne main station and the Domplatte around Cologne Cathedral.

In the German Bishops' Conference he is the deputy chairman of the Caritas Commission and a member of the Migration Commission .
