Augustinus Frotz (born May 25, 1903 in Vohwinkel ; † November 12, 1994 in Cologne ) was auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Cologne .

Life

Frotz was the fourth of six children. After attending the Catholic elementary school , he began a commercial apprenticeship in 1917. However, because he felt called to be a priest , he broke off his apprenticeship in order to start studying theology in Bonn in the spring of 1924, after completing his Abitur . In autumn 1924 he moved to the Germanicum in Rome , where he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1927 and a doctorate in theology in 1931 on The Martyrs of England in the 16th Century . He was ordained deacon on May 20, 1930 and ordained a priest on October 26, 1930 , after which Frotz was initially chaplain of St. Stephan in Cologne-Lindenthal, later vicar of the cathedral parish at Cologne Cathedral . After many years of priestly work as a diocesan youth chaplain and evacue chaplain, he was appointed resident cathedral chapter in 1957 . On August 7, 1962 Augustinus Frotz was by Pope John XXIII. appointed titular bishop of Corada and auxiliary bishop in Cologne. On October 7, 1962 he received the episcopal ordination of Joseph Cardinal Frings in the High Cathedral in Cologne, co- consecrators were the Cologne auxiliary bishops Joseph Ferche and Wilhelm Cleven . He then took part in the Second Vatican Council as a council father . It is thanks to Augustinus Frotz, among other things, that on April 28, 1968, in the presence of Cardinal Frings, the world's first consecration of married men as permanent deacons took place in Cologne Cathedral.
