Anton Gottfried Claessen

Anton Gottfried Claessen (born February 11, 1788 in Gangelt ; † September 29, 1847 in Cologne ) was auxiliary bishop in Cologne .

Life

After attending secondary school in Heinsberg and the seminary in Cologne, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Cologne on March 14, 1812 . In the following years he worked as a pastor in Oedt , Gelsenkirchen and Viersen , in 1825 became a government and school councilor in Aachen , where the King of Prussia nominated him as provost of the collegiate chapter in 1840 , and finally in 1844 cathedral provost in Cologne. On July 25 of the same year, Claessen was appointed titular bishop of Gadara and auxiliary bishop in Cologne. He was ordained bishop on January 19, 1845, Archbishop Johannes von Geissel from Cologne ; Co- consecrators were Johann Georg Müller , auxiliary bishop in Trier , and Wilhelm Arnoldi , bishop of Trier.
