Joseph Müller (born September 29, 1845 in Sievernich , † March 21, 1921 in Cologne ) was auxiliary bishop in Cologne .

Life

Joseph Müller was ordained a deacon on November 30, 1868 and incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Cologne . On 13 March 1869 he received in Cologne the priesthood . Shortly thereafter, he was appointed assistant to the vicariate general , and from 1876 on he worked as a religious and senior teacher at the Apostle High School in Cologne. Appointed to the Cologne cathedral chapter in 1898 when the King of Prussia was nominated and appointed cathedral dean by Archbishop Antonius Fischer in 1903 , he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. on April 30, 1903 appointed titular bishop of Sarepta and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Cologne.

Antonius Cardinal Fischer donated him the episcopal ordination on June 7, 1903, co- consecrators were the Bishop of Osnabrück Hubertus Voss and the Paderborn Auxiliary Bishop Augustinus Gockel . In 1905 Müller was appointed official . Appreciated by the clergy and the people for his kindness , he was on the electoral list for replacing the Archdiocese of Cologne in both 1903 and 1912. The Prussian state government, however, always rejected him as a candidate because they considered him too weak and too old. Müller always took a negative attitude towards the influence of the Apostolic See.
