Wilhelm Stockums

Wilhelm Stockums (born October 15, 1877 in Elmpt ; † August 5, 1956 in Cologne ) was auxiliary bishop in Cologne.

Life

After visiting the Quirinus Gymnasium in Neuss Stockums resigned as Alumne into a theological Collegium Albertinum in Bonn and studied at the University of Catholic theology . He then moved into the Cologne Seminary and received on 15 March 1902, the Great Cathedral in Cologne by Archbishop Hubert Theophilus Simar the priesthood . On March 19, 1902, he was appointed chaplain to the Herz Jesu in Cologne. Antonius Cardinal Fischer appointed him on March 1, 1910 as repetiteur at the Collegium Albertinum in Bonn. In the same year Stockums was awarded a Dr. theol. doctorate and on September 2, 1912 was appointed director of the Collegium Leoninum in Bonn. During the First World War , together with the theology professors Gerhard Esser , Arnold Rademacher and Heinrich Schrörs , he organized lecture courses in the western stage area for the candidates for the priesthood in the field. On 10 October 1922 it appointed Karl Joseph Cardinal Schulte also to Synodalexaminator and 26 May 1924 Prosynodalrichter. During this time Stockums had hoped in vain to succeed Gerhard Esser on the chair of dogmatics at the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Bonn after his death . After Pope Pius XI. Stockums was appointed titular bishop of Erythrae and auxiliary bishop in Cologne on February 5, 1932 and preconized on February 9, Cardinal Schulte appointed him to the cathedral chapter on March 22 and donated him episcopal ordination on April 20, 1932 in the Cologne Cathedral ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishop Hermann Joseph Sträter from Aachen and Josef Hammels , also auxiliary bishop in Cologne. This was followed by appointments to General Vicariate on May 10, 1932, Prosynodal Examinator on October 10, 1932, Monastery Commissioner of the Ursulines in Cologne on June 28, 1933 and Vice-Official on December 11, 1933. The new Archbishop, Joseph Frings , appointed Stockums on February 10, 1942 also to the monastery commissioner of the Cellitinnen in Cologne and on March 16, 1948 to the cathedral dean .
