Hermann Joseph Sträter (born June 3, 1866 in Forst ; † March 16, 1943 in Aachen ) was Aachen's provost and auxiliary bishop in Cologne and Aachen . 1938–1943 he served as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Aachen.

Hermann Joseph Sträter was the son of the cloth manufacturer Hermann Eduard Sträter (1835–1884) and Johann Elisabeth Franziska Scheibler (1842–1914), daughter of the Monschau cloth manufacturer Hermann Scheibler . His two second cousins Hermann Sträter and Eduard Sträter and his great-uncle August Sträter also belonged to the family. After graduating from the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen, Hermann Joseph Sträter studied theology at the universities of Bonn, Würzburg and Freiburg im Breisgau. Strater was ordained a priest on March 14, 1891 . He later became an inspector at the Rhenish Knight Academy in Bedburg, chaplain in Cologne-Kalk and at St. Mauritius in Cologne, repetent at the Albertinum theological convict in Bonn and on May 1, 1905 pastor at St. Joseph in Krefeld , where he also became dean . On July 8, 1922, he was appointed to the Stifts propst in Aachen.

On June 19, 1922, Pope Pius XI appointed him . as titular bishop of Caesaropolis and auxiliary bishop in Cologne. Responsible for the Aachen area of ​​the archbishopric, he was appointed auxiliary bishop and vicar general of the new diocese after the establishment of the diocese of Aachen and in May 1938, after the death of the first Aachen bishop Joseph Vogt , first capitular vicar , then apostolic administrator of the diocese.

As a theology student at his places of study in Bonn, Würzburg and Freiburg, Sträter had become an active member of an association in the KV and remained a member of the KV until his death.
