Miyavi
Miyavi ( Japanese 雅 , miyabi , stage name: 雅 -MIYAVI-; real name: Japanese 石 原 貴 雅 Ishihara Takamasa, born September 14, 1981 in Osaka , Japan ) is a Japanese musician. Miyavi started his career as a guitarist and background singer with the visual kei band Due'le quartz and has been a solo artist since they split up in 2002. In 2007 he decided to join Yoshiki Hayashi's project SKIN as a guitarist.
biography
childhood
According to the magazine "Rock and Read" Vol. 4, Miyavi was born in Osaka as the son of a Japanese woman and a Zainichi- Korean . The family later moved to Kawanishi , Hyogo Prefecture . Miyavi says of himself that he was a good student as a kid and liked to play football.
At 15, the boy bought his first guitar and started trying his hand at songwriting after sustaining an injury to his leg that prevented him from playing football for a while.
Indies: Due'le quartz and first solo steps
Miyavi was the youngest member of the 17 indie - rock band quartz Due'le , which was based 1999th At that time he wrote "Miyabi", which means "elegant". He wrote most of the band's lyrics.
When Dué le Quartz broke up in September 2002, Miyabi decided to continue his career as a solo artist. He was signed by the Japanese independent label PS Company and presented his first album Gagaku under his new name "Miyavi" (pronounced like Miyabi in Japanese) . After the release of his first music video Girls, be ambitious , it became apparent that Miyabi and Miyavi were both visually and musically different. Without the band, he began to use his freedom and experiment more with music. He now composed some humorous songs carried by screeching guitars and his smoky voice. In contrast, many of his other pieces appear chaotic and aggressive. With this wide range of styles, he opened up a new fan base.
His appearance also changed a lot. While he used to be seen in black lacquer and leather with artistically styled long hair, for example during his model photoshoot for the Gothic & Lolita Bible , he is now wearing more trendy clothes. However, it is still part of visual kei . In various Japanese music magazines such as Fool's Mate , Arena 37c and Shoxx you can regularly see pictures of him, in which he is playful and funny.
The musician took small steps in the acting business when he and his former bandmate Sakito in the film Ryomano Tsumato Sono Ottoto Aijin . played along. In 2003 he also played himself in the film Oresama .
As early as 2004, Miyavi had his first chance to play at three different anime conventions in the USA, but he had to cancel at the last minute due to internal problems. In the same year he achieved a great success with his single 明日 元 気 に な れ (Eng. Be happy tomorrow) , as it made it to number one on the Oricon Indies charts.
Major: pop and acoustic phase
In October 2004 Miyavi temporarily switched to the major label Universal and released the single Rock no gyakushū -Superstar no jōken- / 21 Seikigata Koushinkyoku , from which he was to be found in the credits as "MYV". He composed, arranged and produced his music alone until his album Miyavizm (2005). Since he can play all the instruments that can be heard in his songs himself, he recorded his songs alone in the studio until this album. He therefore needed session musicians for his live performances and has already played with many musicians known in the scene, such as the guitarist Pata ( X Japan ) and the drummer Shinya ( Luna Sea ). In July 2007, Miyavi introduced the Kavki Boiz , a group of musicians consisting of a tap dancer, a beatboxer, a drummer, a DJ and a bassist who accompanied him until the beginning of 2009. Through this collaboration , his music combines pop , rock and hip-hop .
From 2005 and 2006, the musician's music became more pop and acoustic, which can be heard in his other albums MYV Pops and Miyaviuta -Dokusou- . His new music could be heard live on five days on the occasion of his 25 Shūnen Kinen Koen Tokyo Geijutsu Gekijo 5 Days -Dokuso concert series, which took place in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space on his 25th birthday in September 2006.
In the following six months, Miyavi took time to study English at a language school in America. According to a 2009 interview, he studied in the mornings, then took dance classes and then met friends and / or did street performances in the evening.
US debut, Neo Visualizm and SKIN
On May 25, 2007, Miyavi announced at the JRock Revolution hosted by Yoshiki at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles that he would officially join Yoshiki's superband SKIN as a guitarist alongside Yoshiki, Sugizo ( Luna Sea ) and Gackt . SKIN made their first and to date only live appearance at the Anime Expo in Long Beach , California on June 29, 2007.
For Miyavi, another solo live concert in America followed, which took place in Las Vegas on February 17, 2007 , after it had been announced only a short time beforehand on Miyavi's online blog.
In 2007 Miyavi followed up with his fourth major album. 7 Samurai Sessions -We're Kavki Boiz- , which was mixed by TeddyLoid, marked another musical development in Miyavi's career, as it included a variety of new sounds such as different drums, turntable and tap dance. For his next project, Miyavi teamed up with the “Kavki Boyz” under the motto “Neo Visualism”. Miyavi's seventh major single 咲 き 誇 る 華 の よ う に -Neo Visualizm- / Kabuki Danshi ( saki hokoru hana no you ni ) was released on June 20, 2007 and entered the Oricon charts at number four . The support tour The Beginning of Neo Visualizm Tour kicked off on July 16, included 20 concerts in Japan and one in Korea, and lasted six weeks. On July 29, 2007 Miyavi gave his first concert in Europe at the Bonn Bridge Forum as part of the Animagic and returned to Europe on his two world tours in 2008 and 2009.
After his single Subarashikikana, kono sekai - What A Wonderful World (November 14, 2007) he released the single 日 の 光 さ え 届 届 か な い こ の 場所 で (Hi no hikari sae todokanai kono basho de) together with Sugizo (Luna Sea, SKIN) (January 16, 2008).
2008 until today
A new album, This Iz the Japanese Kabuki Rock , followed in March 2008. Miyavi then packed his crew for the almost sold-out This Iz The Japanese Kabuki Rock Tour 2008 , which took him to 33 cities in 14 countries and which took him to the DVD This Iz The Original Samurai Style was immortalized. Musically, Miyavi tried his hand at his first remix album, Room No. 382 (with the support of TeddyLoid ).
Miyavi celebrated the new year 2009 on January 3rd with the 10th Anniversary Commemorative Performance at Nippon Budokan , at which all the artists who are under contract with PS Company performed. Other DVD and photobook publications followed. The year held more surprises for the fans ready: Miyavi decided to separate after 10 years of PS Company and his own label, J-glam, Inc. to establish. He also confirmed rumors about his personal happiness: Miyavi has been melody with the singer since 2009 . married and meanwhile has two daughters with her.
The fans in the USA had to give up his performances on the second world tour Neo Tokyo Samurai Black in 2009 due to an injury.
Miyavi has been under contract with EMI since 2010 and changed his stage name to 雅 -MIYAVI- . The single Torture (September 15) and the album “What's My Name?” (October) were released under the new name .
In 2014 he played the role of the Japanese camp supervisor Mutsuhiro Watanabe in the US film Unbroken .
Others
Miyavi is easy to recognize even in public by his tattoos , with which he is practically "covered". He said in an interview that they all had something to do with things that played a role in his life. In his free time he keeps an online diary in which he reports in part what he has experienced or sends news to his fans. Sometimes he even asks his fans to send him jokes to cheer him up. He also has a lot of contact with them during live performances.
Private life
On March 14, 2009, Miyavi married the Japanese-American singer Miyuki Ishikawa (known as Melody). The couple have two daughters, Lovelie Miyavi (July 29, 2009) and Jewelie Aoi (October 20, 2010).
