melody. (Born February 24, 1982 in Honolulu , Hawaii , USA ) is a Japanese - American J-Pop singer and presenter .

biography

Melody is of Japanese-American descent and grew up in Hawaii, where she attended Punahou School . At the age of 19 she moved to Japan to work on her music career. She became known through the use of her songs in commercials and TV series. Her breakthrough came in 2003 with a commercial for the Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors , in which she sang the song Over the Rainbow , which is also featured on her second single. In the same year she was able to use the Japanese hip-hop band M-Flo , in which she was the second singer, as an additional stepping stone for her career. Due to the media interest in her person, she was able to sell over 70,000 copies of her third single, miss you .

From April 2007 to September 2008 she hosted the Japanese music show J-Melo , which is broadcast on the international channel NHK World . In October 2008, May Hashimoto and Shanti Snyder took over the moderation of the show.

In March 2009, rumors were confirmed that she is married to Japanese singer Miyavi and is expecting a child. The wedding took place on March 14th and was officially confirmed by Miyavi on April 5th. The couple have two daughters together.

Most of the songs are rock and pop . Their songs are distinguished by the fact that they contain both English and Japanese passages. Very striking these changes are between languages in their ballads Lovin 'U and All I Do . However, there are also songs that are entirely in English or Japanese.

Some songs are cover versions of well-known songs, such as Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland , Glory of Love by Peter Cetera or That's The Way It Is by Celine Dion .
