Kawanishi ( Japanese 川西市 , - shi ) is a city in Hyōgo prefecture in Japan .

Kawanishi is located on the northern edge of the Osaka Plain , about 15 km from Osaka and a few kilometers from its Itami Airport. The urban area of Kawanishi covers the southern part of the valley of the smaller Inagawa River .
