Himeji ( Japanese 姫 路 市 , - shi ) is an old castle town in Hyōgo prefecture in Japan . It was raised to the city of April 1, 1889.

The Himeji Castle (Himeji-jō) is one of the national treasures of Japan and was founded in 1993 by the UNESCO as a world heritage site recognized. The park around the castle is known as one of the particularly beautiful places for the Hanami cherry blossom festival and attracts numerous visitors every year.
