Chōkitsu Kurumatani

Chōkitsu Kurumatani ( Japanese 車 谷 長 吉 , Kurumatani Chōkitsu , aka: Kurumatani Yoshihiko ( 車 谷 嘉 彦 ); * July 1, 1945 in Shikama , Hyōgo Prefecture (today: Himeji ); † May 17, 2015 in Tōkyō ) was a Japanese writer.

Even in high school, Kurumatani developed the desire to become a writer after reading the works of Natsume Sōseki and Mori Ōgai . He studied German at the Keiō University , reading Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis as the trigger for the choice of course. He worked for an advertising agency and a publishing house as well as an assistant cook in various places in the Kansai region . In 1993 he received the Mishima Prize for Shiotsubo no saji , and two years later the Hirabayashi Taiko Literature Prize for Hyōryūbutsu . In 1998 he was awarded the Naoki Prize for Akame shijūyataki shinjū misui , and in 2001 the Kawabata Yasunari Literature Prize for Musashimaru .
