Kakogawa ( Japanese 加古川 市 , - shi ) is a city on the river of the same name in Japan . It is located on a relatively extensive plain on the Seto Inland Sea in the south of Hyogo Prefecture . As a result, the climate is very low in precipitation.

history

The history of the city goes back to the Gyōjazuka- Kofun from the 5th century, in its present form it was founded in 1950 by amalgamating the communities and villages of the Kakogawa district. In 1965 the population exceeded the 100,000 mark, and in 1979 the 200,000 mark.

economy

Numerous manufacturing companies are located in the city, the large industrial plant of Kobe Steel by the sea is important. With the economic development of the area west of Kobe , Kakogawa experienced a noticeable upswing in the first decade of the 21st century.

traffic

Kakogawa is served by three railway companies: JR West , Sanyō Electric Railway between Kobe and Himeji , and the local Miki Railway . The main connections are on the JR Sanyo Line with local and express trains to Kobe (26 minutes) and Himeji (11 minutes). JR also operates the regional Kakogawa line to Tamba .
