Bach Festival Leipzig
The Leipzig Bach Festival is a music festival . It took place in the city of Leipzig for the first time in 1908.
The second German Bach Festival of the New Bach Society had already taken place in the trade fair city in 1904 . In the following years the Bach Festival took place at irregular intervals, sometimes referred to as Bach weeks or Bach days.
Since 1999, the festival has been organized every year by the Bach Archive on behalf of the City of Leipzig, each time under a different motto.
During the Bach Festival, works by Johann Sebastian Bach , who lived in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750 and worked as Thomaskantor at the Thomaskirche, are performed in various contexts . Organ tours in central Germany are also part of the regular program.
Every year around 100 individual events take place as part of the Bach Festival, including a concert conducted by the Thomaskantor at the opening.
The BachSpiele Leipzig have been taking place as part of the festival since 2011 .
