Zed Yago is a German metal band. Zed Yago's best known songs include the ballad The Pale Man and the Black Bone Song .

Band history

The band around the front woman and singer Jutta Weinhold , originally founded in 1986 as Sedjago , released their debut album From Over Yonder in 1988 , which deals with Zed Yago, the fictional daughter of the Flying Dutchman , who also gave the band its name. The album was quite unusual for the time because the processing of Wagner motifs was new. Zed Yago wasn't the only female fronted rock band in the late 1980s. Besides Warlock, u. a. Lee Aaron (Kan), Holy Moses (Ger), Vixen (USA), Blitzz (GDR), Saraya (USA), Laos (Ger) and Phantom Blue (USA) led by female singers or run exclusively by women. There are also solo artists such as Lita Ford and Joan Jett . From Over Yonder made it (before AC / DC, among others ) to record of the month in March 1988 in the music magazine Metal Hammer . Soon the band was able to negotiate a major label deal with BMG .

This was followed by a tour in support of Deep Purple , before the band toured extensively as headliners in 1989 and came to the UK in support of WASP . Although the second album Pilgrimage , which was released that year, was still reasonably well received by the press (2nd place in the Metal Hammer Soundcheck February 1989), the great international success failed to materialize. Guitarist Jimmy Durand (formerly Jimmy) reactivated the band together with his wife Yvonne and Claus "Bubi the Schmied" Reinholdt and performed at the 1997 Wacken Open Air .

After the release of a Greatest Hits CD on SPV (like the first album) in 2002, they performed at the Summer End Festival 2003. The following year the band played in the opening act for Bonfire , before their own tour Welcome To in March The return followed. On 4 July 2005 was published under the music label Atomic Symphony with The Guide Insivible the first album of the new lineup, which was followed by the tour of the same name in September and October.

In 2006 Zed Yago celebrated their 20th anniversary and in 2006 they also released a live album for Twilight Zone Records , on which ten live tracks can be heard and two tracks that had not been released before. After a severe hearing loss , Bubi The Schmied left the band.

In 2010 the album Pirates from Hell followed , which Yvonne and Jimmy Durand recorded together with keyboardist Tony Carey and drummer Karsten Kreppert. The band performed at several festivals in the summer of 2010.

Drummer Claus "Bubi, the Schmied" Reinholdt died on January 2nd, 2018 at the age of 60.

style

Stylistically, the band is to be assigned to the direction of "Dramatic Metal", by which they mean typically German, rather heavy and hard music, which is also inspired by classical music such as Richard Wagner. While it used to be compared to the music of Accept and the vocals of Warlock , today one can speak of a certain similarity to the style of Nightwish or Within Temptation . The lyrics were always important to the band and dealt with, for example, about lost fantasy, sometimes with references to classical literature.
