Anthony Lawrence "Tony" Carey (born October 16, 1953 in Watsonville , California ) is an American rock musician .

Life

As a keyboardist , Carey found international recognition in Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow from 1975 . Carey left the band in 1977 and then recorded some solo albums in Germany, where the first two Rainbow albums had already been produced. Later he was best known in German-speaking countries through his cooperation with Peter Maffay ( Tabaluga and the shining silence , Long Shadow , soundtracks for Der Joker and Gefangen im Yemen ).

In addition to his solo albums, two progressive rock albums were recorded and released in 1983 and 1984 under the name Planet P Project .

In Germany Carey achieved great fame at the end of 1988 through the song Room with a View used in the ARD three-parter Wilder West inclusive . In 1989 Carey composed the piece I Feel Good for the crime TV series Tatort (episode 225: Katja's silence ).

In 2003 Carey gave some concerts again after a long absence from the stage. With the CD 1931 - Go Out Dancing, Part 1 , released in 2004, the Planet P Project also found a continuation after 20 years. It followed: Levittown, Out in the rain, Steeltown and the GODbox, which includes the albums mentioned (except Steeltown ) plus a demo version for the record company, now called "Bootleg" because it was circulating on the Internet.

From January to June 2009 Carey was a member of the band Over the Rainbow . In 2009 he founded the formation EBC ROXX together with ELA and Jürgen R. Blackmore, the son of Ritchie Blackmore . In 2010 the album Winners was released . In the same year he released the album Pirates from Hell with Zed Yago and performed with the band at summer festivals.

Carey was also active as a producer, u. a. for Pat Travers , The Force , Bo Katzman , The Pinups, Caro , Geff Harrison , Peter Maffay , Debbie Bonham, Jennifer Rush , Max Carl , Natacha , Ina Morgan, Milva , Joe Cocker , John Mayall , Anne Haigis , Justine Johns, Chris Norman and David Knopfler . He worked with Diether Dehm on several productions .

Carey has been performing regularly with Zöller & Konsorten in German-speaking countries since 2016 .
