The place name originates from the originally Roman-Uubin name Severiniacum . Extensive finds prove that Sievernich was settled in Roman times , including grave finds and a pottery furnace. Sievernich was at the intersection of two Roman military roads and a trade route. To the south of the village, one meter below today's ground level, remnants of the former Roman road from Cologne to Reims were discovered .
In a goods classification of Prüm Abbey is listed in 893 that Abbot Baldwin in Sievernich two hooves to feud had. At the beginning of the 18th century Sievernich belonged to one half to the Duchy of Jülich and the other half to Kurköln .
On July 1, 1969 Sievernich was incorporated into Müddersheim. The place came on January 1, 1972 together with Müddersheim within the framework of the Aachen law to the new municipality Vettweiß.
