Disternich is a district of the municipality of Vettweiß in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
location
The place is east of Vettweiß on the steep slope of the Neffelbach , a tectonic settlement in the Zülpicher Börde .
Neighboring towns are Sievernich , Müddersheim , Weiler in der Ebene (city of Zülpich ) and Vettweiß.
traffic
The old Roman military road from Zülpich to Neuss leads directly past the village . It was crossed in the vicinity of the coronation road Aachen - Frankfurt. The federal highway 477 follows the course of the Heerstrasse today . There is no through traffic in the place.
Public transport
Today (as of 2012), buses of the Düren Kreisbahn (DKB) connect the town to local public transport via AVV line 208 (Düren - Nörvenich - Zülpich) . As early as 1909, went Kleinbahn DKB of Distelrath about Nörvenich at the site along Zülpich and Embken had at the Disternich a small railway station. The traffic was initially carried out with steam trains, from 1938 with diesel railcars. From 1957, electric railcars operated the tram . Passenger transport was switched to buses in 1960. After the cessation of freight traffic in 1962, the line was closed and dismantled.

Disternich was already known by the Celts around 400 BC. Settled. The place is mentioned for the first time as Dextriniacum . In 1447 a knight Rost von Disternich is named as the owner of the castle.
On August 5, 1922, the first local group of soil reformers in the Düren district was founded in Disternich .
On January 1, 1969, Disternich was incorporated into Müddersheim. The place came together with Müddersheim on January 1, 1972 within the framework of the Aachen law to the new municipality Vettweiß.

church
The brick building of the church dates from the 18th century. A church of St. Mary was first mentioned in 1171. In 1854 Disternich became an independent parish (formerly part of Sievernich).

The primary school children are brought to Müddersheim by school bus. There are secondary schools in Düren and Zülpich.
There is a kindergarten in the village run by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt .

- The place gained notoriety many years ago when a real, very expensive Stradivarius violin was stolen from the Schenkenburg . The castle used to belong to Catharina Schenkel . After many years of vacancy, a senior living group now lives there.
- The Fundus Group has part of its offices in Disternich .
- A community hall is available as a meeting place.
- In the village is the stud of Peter Schiergen , who trains trotters here (see Derby (equestrian sport) ).
- In 1971 and 1977 Disternich was able to win a bronze medal in the competition Our village should become more beautiful at the state level.
