Peter Schiergen (born March 23, 1965 in Willich ) is a jockey and trainer in German horse racing .

Schiergen began his training as a jockey in Krefeld in 1981 at Herbert Cohn's stable. In 1984 he successfully completed this. His first victory was already during his training on March 20, 1982, when he won with Ofarim in Düsseldorf . In 1989 he became a jockey in Heinz Jentzsch's stable and became the first stable jockey there six years later. From 1992 to 1996 he was the most successful German jockey ( champion jockey ). As a jockey he achieved 1,451 victories, twelve of them in obstacle races and 32 in group races . With 273 victories in 1995, he set a new European record. In 1997 he quit his job as a jockey and became a coach the following year.

Schiergen has been the trainer of Stall Asterblüte in Cologne since 1998, where he succeeded Heinz Jentzsch . He was able to build on his earlier successes as a jockey almost seamlessly. Among other things, he won the German Derby several times , which he was denied as a jockey. In 2011, the mare he trained, Danedream, won the Prix ​​de l'Arc de Triomphe , having previously won the Baden Grand Prix and the Oaks d'Italia. In 2012 the mare won the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Ascot and thus became the most successful German racehorse of all time in terms of prize money.

Schiergen trained Lucky Speed , the 2013 Derby winner and winner of the American St. Leger Stakes (Gr. III) in Arlington in 2015, who set a new track record there under Andrasch Starke .
