Danedream (* 7. May 2008 ) is a drawn in Germany and Peter Schiergen trained Thoroughbred horse . On October 2, 2011, the mare won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe under jockey Andrasch Starke and achieved prize money of 2,285,600 euros for her owner. After Star Appeal, this was only the second victory of a German horse in this important race. On July 21, 2012, at Ascot, she won the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes , a Group 1 race with a total prize pool of £ 1 million. This makes Danedream the first mare to win both the Arc and King George. With a total profit of more than 3.6 million euros, Danedream was able to surpass Paolini's previous record.

Career

Danedream achieved her first victory in a group race on May 29, 2011 in Milan, when she won the Italian Oaks (Group 2) by a margin of six and a half lengths. Under jockey Andrasch Starke, she achieved prize money of 200,000 euros. After a fifth place in the Abu Dhabi Prix de Malleret (group 2) in Saint-Cloud , she won the Berlin Grand Prix (formerly Germany Prize ), which was held for the first time in 67 years at the Hoppegarten racecourse, on July 24, 2011 September, the renowned Baden Grand Prix (both group 1). She was also able to win these races by five or six lengths ahead.

With their five-length victory in Paris at the Arc de Triomphe, Danedream was also able to improve the previous track record over 2400 meters, set by Peintre Celebre in 1997 , by eleven hundredths of a second to 2: 24.49 seconds. Besides other highly rated opponents, she also left last year's winner Workforce behind, as well as multiple Group 1 winner So You Think , who only won the Irish Champion Stakes in early September , a Group 1 race with prize money of 750,000 Euro, of which 428,000 for the winner. The runner-up of the Irish Champion Stakes, Snow Fairy, achieved third place under jockey Frankie Dettori in the "Arc" behind Danedream and the outsider Shareta .

Danedream's rating by German, French and British rating agencies was exceptionally high after winning the Arc. The German GAG ( general balance weight) was set at 104 kg, which corresponds to the 128 pounds of the French and English ratings. For comparison: the highest GAG awarded by today's standards was 105 kg for the stallion Manduro .

After her victory at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe as a co-favorite, Danedream was only able to achieve sixth place on November 25, 2011 at the Japan Cup, the most important horse race in Japan, after an unfavorable race. But at least she was still the best foreign horse.

At the age of four, Danedream started the season at the Grand Prix of Baden Entrepreneurs (Group II) in Baden-Baden. She won, but her win was unconvincing. When she only finished fourth and last as the favorite in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (only 4 horses started because everyone else had withdrawn their entry because they didn't think they had a chance against Danedream), many observers already believed their heyday would be over. A little later, however, she was able to impressively refute her doubters with a victory at the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes against strong international competition. So far, the fifth place of the famous Erlenhofer Orsini in 1959 was the best placement of a German horse in this most important and most highly endowed European summer horse race, to which older horses are also allowed. With her victory in the King George, Danedream also advanced to become the most profitable German racehorse of all time.

In the Grand Prix of Baden in 2012 she defended her victory from last year, ridden by Andrasch Starke. This was their last race on German soil. As a result, a use at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and the Japan Cup in November 2012 was planned. At the beginning of October 2012, the area of the Cologne racecourse , where Danedream is also housed, was declared a quarantine area. The reason was the positive finding of infectious anemia in a horse in a neighboring veterinary clinic. As a result, no horse from the quarantine area was allowed to leave it within the next three months.

progeny

She was brought to England in November 2012. Here she was covered by the highly successful stallion Frankel (14 wins in 14 races), a two-time Cartier Racing Award - Racehorse of the Year in Europe - winner. On January 27, 2014, she gave birth to her first foal, Nothing But Dreams, a mare. Danedream is supposed to stay at Newsells Park Stud in England for the time being in order to be mated by Frankel one more time.

background

Before winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (October 2011)

Her father Lomitas had the Grand Prix can choose from Baden in 1991 and in the same year by the viewers of sports show for Galopper of the year selected. Lomitas was also successful as a breeding stallion. His son Belenus won the German Derby in Hamburg in 1999. The multiple Group 1 winners Sumitas and Silvano also belonged to the same year . The latter was able to win a Group 1 race in Hong Kong as well as in the USA and Singapore.
