Epsom Derby 2010 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe 2010 Brigadier Gerard Stakes 2010 |
Workforce (born 14 March 2007) is one of Juddmonte Farms drawn and Michael Stoute -trained Thoroughbred horse . His greatest successes were his victories as a three-year-old in the Epsom Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 2010.
In his derby victory on June 5, 2010, Workforce improved the previous track record on the Epsom Downs by over a second to 2: 32.31 seconds and outclassed the competition by seven lengths. After a less good performance in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on July 24th, his owner let him run in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which he won with a head margin over his Japanese competitor Nakayama Festa.
Unlike many winners of the English derby, he did not start breeding at the age of four, but remained in training. In May 2011 he won a Group 3 race with the Brigadier Gerard Stakes and was then only beaten by the Australian champion So You Think in the Eclipse Stakes . A second attempt in the "King George" he finished with second place. In October 2011 he was only twelfth after an unfortunate race in his attempt to defend the title of unofficial world champion over the distance of one and a half miles in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. In this race, the mare Danedream, trained by Peter Schiergen in Germany, won .
